Visit Williams, Arizona ... The Gateway to the Grand Canyon and Northern Arizona

The City of Williams is nestled in the valley at the base of the Bill Williams Mountain, in the Kaibab National Forest. Williams is another one of the famed Arizona Route 66 communities and is located just 30 minutes west of Flagstaff. This is an old railroad town returning to its roots. Today, the popular Grand Canyon Railroad provides a direct steam-powered link to the very edge of the Grand Canyon. The town and surrounding area offer an abundance of year-round outdoor activities. The Sycamore Canyon Wilderness just minutes from Williams, is home to four beautiful lakes, all offer great fishing.

Williams was founded in the late 1800's and named for Bill Williams, the famous trapper and mountain man. The town's historic district is filled with restored shops and saloons.

You don’t want to miss a visit to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon for spectacular views of one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Take the trip to the Grand Canyon on the historic Grand Canyon Railway that begins with a hilarious “Wild West” show every morning, then it’s “All Aboard” and the adventure begins.  Featuring entertaining cowboy songs and light snacks during the two-hour train ride taking you to the famous El Tovar for lunch.  There’s plenty of time for photographs, shopping and authentic Indian jewelry and art is abundant at the many South Rim gift shops as well as souvenirs for those special folks back home.     Planes of Fame Air Museum is an aviation museum dedicated to collecting, restoring, displaying, and preserving of aircraft and memorabilia for the educational benefit of current and future generations.  Currently, Planes of Fame houses over 150 aircraft at its two locations, the main facility at Chino Airport in California and a satellite museum near the Grand Canyon at Valle Airport in Arizona, two hours from the Best Western Williams.

We invite you to take a look around the Planes of Fame Air Museum website to learn more about the museum and how you can be a part of preserving aviation history.  Please visit http://www.planesoffame.org

Hidden in the tall Ponderosa Pines of Northern Arizona lays Elephant Rocks Golf Course. Players have enjoyed golf at Elephant Rocks since the early 1920s. The original stone clubhouse has remained nearly unchanged for the past 75 years and now houses a fully stocked pro-shop and bar to provide you with all your golfing desires. This great course received its name by way of the elephant shaped rocks near its entrance. The course meanders its way through the tall Ponderosa Pines with ample bent grass greens, protected by deep bunkers and native grasses. From the moment you arrive at Elephant Rocks, you know you are somewhere special. http://www.elephantrocks.net/
